United attempted to retain the Champions League but were outclassed by Pep Guardiola's Barcelona on a rainy night in Rome. The Red Devils were forced to wear their domestic away kit due to their home and European shirts clashing with Barcelona's home shirt. Domestically, the Premier League crown once again belonged to the Old Trafford outfit after a close-run battle with arch-rivals Liverpool. A domestic double was achieved thanks to a penalty-shoot out win over Tottenham but the treble alluded the side with Everton coming out on top in a FA Cup Semi-Final shoot-out
